Nineteen years ago. That was the last time Arkansas beat Florida in the SEC Tournament.
Mike Anderson was an assistant coach for those Razorbacks. Like the game Friday night between the two teams, that one was in the quarterfinals. Arkansas would then beat Mississippi State in the semifinals and go on to the SEC title game, where it fell to Kentucky. Coincidentally, that exact path is possible in 2018.
Arkansas could use it. Not only would another appearance in the SEC title game be impressive — third such time in four years for coach Mike Anderson — such a deep run would help the Hogs’ seeding hopes come Sunday when the NCAA Tournament is announced.
No small task beating Florida, though. If the SEC Tournament streak wasn’t enough, Arkansas hasn’t beaten the Gators in any capacity since February 2013. Florida won this year by 15 points in Gainesville.
It’s going to be a late night, but the stakes are high. Consider this an official recommendation.
