The 2018 WNBA Draft will start on Thursday night at 7 p.m. ET live from the Nike Headquarters in New York City. The first round of the draft will be televised on ESPN2, with the second and third rounds starting at 8 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
The first pick in the draft belongs to the brand new Las Vegas Aces, the first professional basketball team in Vegas. The second pick is the Indiana Fever’s, while the third and fourth belong to the Chicago Sky. Every team picking in the lottery (and beyond) should be able to find what they’re looking for. This draft is deep.
A’ja Wilson, the dominant big from South Carolina, is almost definitely going to be picked No. 1 overall. New Aces head coach Bill Laimbeer has spoken about what makes her so dominant, and it she’d seemingly be the perfect fit next to last season’s No. 1 pick, Kelsey Plum. Vegas has a real good team coming.
After Wilson, things become less clear. Ohio State’s Kelsey Mitchell is expected to go in the lottery, as is Connecticut’s big Azura Stevens. Both could be game-changers at the next level with their scoring abilities. Tennessee’s Diamond DeShield, UConn’s Gabby Williams, and UCLA’s Jordin Canada are also in the mix.
